Brightbridge Wealth Management Headlines: Apple unveils iCloud pricing, launches developer preview
Apple’s new iCloud service will allow iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad users running iOS 5 and up to store their music, contacts, documents, and other data online. The service will also store a history of apps you download from the App Store and media you purchase from iTunes, allowing you to re-download items at any time.
Today Apple opened up iCloud to developers. If you have a developer account you can login atiCloud.com to kick the tires. In addition to online storage, the service provides a free “find my phone” feature which shows your phone’s physical location on a map, and a suite of web apps for email, calendar, and iWork, allowing you to view documents from your iOS device.
9 to 5 Mac has posted a series of images. Overall, the web apps look an awful lot like iPad apps, which is probably a good thing if you’re used to using iWork, Mail, and other apps on an iPad. On the other hand, if you’re not using a touch-enabled computer, the iPad look and feel might be a bit of overkill.
Users will get 5GB of storage for free, and anything purchased from iTunes doesn’t count against that limit. But if you need more space, Apple announced today that you can get an extra 10GB of data for $20 per year, 20GB extra for $40 per year, or 50GB extra for $100 per year.

Dynamic Wealth Management Headlines: Zurich Financial Services profits up 20% in first half
ZURICH—Zurich Financial Services Ltd.’s profit climbed to $1.97 billion during the six months ended June 30, an increase of 20% compared with the same period of 2010, the Swiss insurer reported Thursday.
Although Zurich suffered catastrophe-related losses during the first six months of this year, it benefited from a gain of $441 million before tax on the sale of shares in Beijing-based New China Life Insurance Co. Ltd. Zurich said it reduced its stake in the Beijing-based life insurer to 15% from 20% in February.
Zurich’s gross written general insurance premiums and policy fees rose 5% to $18.88 billion during the first six months of 2011, compared with the same period last year. In its global life unit, premiums and policy fees gained 1% year over year to $13.11 billion in the first half. Meanwhile Zurich’s Farmers Management Services unit saw revenues fall 2% year over year to $1.34 billion between January and June.
Dynamic Wealth Management Headlines: Germany requests urgent UNSC meeting on Syria
Closed-door consultations requested after human rights groups says attack by Syrian forces on Hama leaves at least 80 people dead.
UNITED NATIONS – Germany has requested that the UN Security Council meet on Monday to discuss the worsening violence in Syria, a spokesman for the German mission at the United Nations said.
The request came after human rights groups said 80 people had been killed in the Syrian city of Hama when government troops stormed in on Sunday to crush protests amid a five-month-old uprising against President Bashar Assad.
Germany holds the rotating Security Council presidency until midnight on Sunday, then India takes over for the month of August.
German spokesman Alexander Eberl said his mission had asked the Indian mission to schedule closed-door council consultations for Monday and it was likely to take place in the afternoon, New York time.
